Dr. Jazz was recorded by Jelly Roll Morton and His Red Hot Peppers for The Victor Talking Machine Co. of Camden, New Jersey on December 16, 1926. The recording was made at the Webster Hotel in Chicago. Morton led the group, played piano, and performed vocals. Musicians are listed in the video. The music was composed by jazz great King Oliver. Walter Melrose of Melrose Music later contributed to the arrangement and thus justified adding his name as a composer along with Oliver. The record is Victor matrix number BVE 32757, released on Victor label 20415. It was also released on the Gramophone label in France, Italy, Norway, Switzerland, and Australia; on the Electrola label in Germany, and on the Bluebird label.
