Lithuania: Grybauskaite eyes second term in presidential vote

Lithuania’s incumbent President Dalia Grybauskaite has been widely tipped to win the country’s presidential election on Sunday, May 11.
Opinion polls have given the former EU budget chief a big lead over her rivals, but some suggest she may face a second round.
An EU member state since 2004, Lithuania plans to adopt the euro next year.
Grybauskaite has been a vocal critic of Russia’s actions in Ukraine and has warned of a threat to the security of the region.
One voter in the Lithuanian city of Kaunas explained what he expected after the election, saying: “I think it’ll be the same path, so no looking eastwards, only westwards’.
“More attention should be paid to the youth, so young people don’t emigrate away,” said a voter in Šiauliai.
Polls close at 18:00 (CET) and initial results are expected shortly afterwards.
If Grybauskaite, or any other candidate, fails to secure more than 50 percent of the votes, a run-off will take place within the next two weeks.
