Tribal Peace Jirga calls for extension in ceasefire

PESHAWAR: The Tribal Peace Jirga organized by Jamaat-e-Islami here Thursday called for extension in ceasefire and appealed to the military, the government and the Taliban to remove hurdles blocking peace process.
The Jirga supported the ongoing negotiation process with Taliban for durable peace. It appreciated the efforts of both the government and Taliban’s negotiating committees.
According to the statement issued here, the Tribal Peace Jirga fully endorsed the resolutions approved by the Parliament.
The Tribal Amn Jirga demanded political, democratic, economic and educational reforms in Fata to bring the tribal people as par with the people of rest of the country.
Addressing the Jirga, Jamaat e Islami (JI) Ameer Siraj ul Haq said that the today’s Jirga proved that the people of tribal areas are not terrorists.
On the occasion, Jamiat Ulema e Islam-Sami (JUI-S) Chief Maulana Samiul Haq said that the tribes are playing leading role in the country’s defence.
The parliament had agreed to end war and to initiate dialogue process, he added.
