This is from the 1970 movie “Love Story” starring Ryan O’Neal and Ali MacGraw. A very sad movie about star-crossed lovers and the woman dies. Tragic ending that requires several boxes of tissues for men and women. The famous line that came from the movie was “Love means never having to say you’re sorry.”
France’s own Francis Lai wrote much of the music for the movie. The title song was recorded by Andy Williams about the man watching his love die. Very touching scene at the end of the movie where they lay together in the hospital bed before she dies.
Mireille released the French version the same year. Her song was from the perspective of the woman who was dying. Not a dry eye in the house.
In 1997 in the ZDF Special Mireille and Sacha Distel did a third version of the song where then man is dying Although the movie won many awards, it was panned by many critics.
