Tube strike brings chaos to London with more to follow

Day one of London’s 48-hour tube strike brought rush-hour chaos to the capital.

The RMT union said support for the action is ‘rock solid.’

The dispute is over London Underground’s modernisation of the tube.

London Underground plans to close every ticket office on the network.

The RMT says the move will result in 1,000 job losses.

Commuters bore the brunt of the stay away day: “I had to grab a bus because my usual tube station Sloane Square was closed. There is a lot of anger on the streets. Everyone on the buses is angry,” said one man.

The strike ends on Wednesday evening to be followed by a further 72-hour strike beginning on Monday May 5.
