Venezuela protests see at least two killed

At least two people were shot dead on Wednesday (February 12) during anti-government protests in Caracas, Venezuela. The unrest began after President Nicolas Maduro's election last year.
Reuters reporters on the scene said they heard gunshots before seeing one man carried away dead with blood gushing from his head.
Initial reports said two protesters were shot dead. "We have two Venezuelans killed for raising their voices," opposition leader Maria Corina Machado said, according to Reuters.
However, government officials later said a Maduro supporter and one other person were killed.
Marches against Maduro's government and a rally to support the president have taken over the streets of Caracas. Protesting youths have burned tires and vandalized buildings, with soldiers firing tear gas at several hundred young demonstrators when night fell.
Twenty-three people were injured, 25 arrested, four police vehicles burnt, and some government offices vandalized in violence throughout the day, according to officials.
Reuters reports, "The deaths illustrated the South American OPEC nation's deep political divide and volatility almost a year after the death of former socialist leader Hugo Chavez."
