A man robbed a Baskin Robbins ice cream shop Tuesday night in Portland and threatened the lone worker on duty at the time with a needle.

Katherine Pepin was getting ready to close up the shop on Southwest Broadway in Portland around 9 p.m. A man entered the store and said, "This is a robbery. This is a needle full of AIDS." He then told her, "Open the cash drawer," to which Pepin complied after getting a good look at the syringe.

"It looked like a bloody substance," she said.

Pepin handed over the money to the robber and watched him run northbound out of the store. Her phone wasn't working properly so she ran across the street to call 911.

She said she's not afraid of the man coming back and returned to work the following day. One change is that she will not be working alone in the future, because this was the second robbery at that location in two weeks.

Pepin described the suspect as a white male in his 20s, skinny. He's thin and about five feet, nine inches tall with brown hair. He was wearing glasses and bright-colored clothes.
