Przewalski horses have been threatened with extinction for decades -- but through breeding programs and co-operative efforts by various European zoos, their numbers have grown. In fact, many have now returned to their original habitat. But it took nearly fifty years to get to this point.
During that time, scientists carried out extensive research on Przewalski horses -- and that data helped the animals successfully make the transition from life in zoos to life in the wild.
