Satellite pictures reveal repressive North Korea prison camps are expanding

Human rights group Amnesty international has found that North Korea's brutal labor camps hold an estimated 130,000 prisoners.
This satellite picture taken this year shows that camp 16, which is used to hold political prisoners and is half as big as Hong Kong, has built new housing blocks. In camp 15, old buildings have been demolished and six new buildings have been built.
It is believed that most prisoners in these camps were interred because a family member had been considered guilty.
A former guard who worked at camp 16 from the 1980s until the mid-1990s revealed that prisoners in the camp had to work day and night under horrific conditions and were even forced to dig their own graves and then beaten to death with hammers.
Worse, female detainees are frequently raped by officials and then killed to prevent them from revealing secret. One escaped prisoner said she saw two prisoners who had been caught attempting to escape executed in public after being beaten severely.
On Amnesty's web site, researcher Rajiv Narayan is quoted as saying: "Under its new leader Kim Jong-un, North Korea is violating every conceivable human right."
