Khanpur Dam is about 40 Km away from Islamabad. It provides drinking water to the capital city Islamabad. Built on the River Haro, this place had developed as a recreational spot as well. The dam is surrounding by hills covered with trees. Here the migratory birds seek refuge thus making it a perfect spot for bird watching. Beautiful gardens have carved out in the mountain slopes surrounding the Khanpur Lake (the dam’s reservoir). The Khanpur Lake is a hub of many water sports and activities. Tourists and locals can go for boating, fishing, rock climbing; paragliding can be done during the annual spring carnival held here.
