It is simply unbelievable how bold some crooks can be. In one recent case, a camera crew captured the moment a woman in Rio de Janeiro was mugged.

The victim was discussing, of all things, street crime for an interview with RJTV. While she was standing on the sidewalk reportedly discussing the problem, a thief ran up and ripped a gold necklace from around her neck in a classic snatch-and-grab technique.

He then ran away on foot. The exceptionally brave interviewer immediately took off and chased after the crook. Unfortunately he was not able to catch the suspect, but he did cause him to drop the necklace on the ground.

Brazilian law enforcement authorities are beefing up patrols in preparation for the 2014 FIFA World Cup which starts in June. Tourists are advised to pay attention to their surroundings and be on the look-out for pickpockets and other acts of crime.

Street crime is reportedly high in Rio de Janeiro and other host cities. And while Rio purportedly experienced its lowest homicide rate in 2012 in more than 20 years, it apparently climbed up in 2013 by 10 percent.
