Lagarde: Ukraine aid program has "very broad based" support

International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Christine Lagarde said Thursday (April 10) that the $14-18 billion aid to Ukraine has wide support in the IMF.

"There has been encouraging, very broad based support from all corners of the board of the IMF," Lagarde said.

In a wide ranging news conference, Lagarde also said the IMF was encouraged the European Central Bank had reiterated its commitment to use unconventional measures as needed to boost prices.

"We are concerned about this potential risk in advanced economies in general, in the euro area in particular, where we know that prolonged low inflation will hurt both growth and jobs. And in this context, it is encouraging that the ECB reiterated its commitment to use unconventional measures as needed," Lagarde said.

Lagarde also said she is disappointed IMF reform measures had happened. She said she had hoped to celebrate reform at the Spring meeting.
