A man and a woman armed with handguns stole 20 luxury watches with an estimated total value of 800,000 euros (1.1 million US dollars) from a store located on Rue Saint-Honore, an upscale district only a short distance from Place Vendome on Thursday (December 5).

It was reported that a couple, each armed with a handgun, entered the store in the afternoon. They first requested to see some watches, before revealing the weapon to shop assistants. The two suspects then left the store with 20 watches.

It is the latest in a series of similar robberies in France. A group of burglars stole more than 1 million euros worth of jewellery from another luxury jewellery store in October.

In July, an armed man stole jewellery worth about 40 million euros from a jewellery exhibition held at the Carlton Hotel in Cannes. The theft was reportedly the second-largest heist ever in France.
