This movement is called the carousel. It seems very impressive but in reality it’s just a question of body placement technique. You’ll notice that the spin gives the impression of lightness. This sensation occurs because when your legs are no longer in contact with the pole we can change our grip on the pole. This grip is called full bracket grip. Our objective here is to use opposing forces. Our high hand is going to pull the pole toward us while the low hand will push the bar away. This is going to give us a lot of stability and allow us to lock our joints in order to keep a sufficient distance from the pole. You should not be stuck to the pole, hence the action of pushing away from the pole. In this grip the strong hand is high up on the pole with the shoulder lowered. The second hand will be placed very low on the pole, the inside of the wrist pointing upwards with the index finger pointing downwards on the pole. If you grip all of your fingers around the pole you will not only hurt them, but the movement will not be very stable.
To get into the movement, there is no hook involved but there is need for momentum which will come from the outside leg. So let’s take four steps. One.Two.Three.Four.The outside leg will lift from the floor and the body will face the pole. The outside leg is already placed in position for carousel, meaning the knee is bent. The foot is planted firmly into the ground and the knee is opened out to the side. The hand is quickly placed very low on the pole, very straight. Do not allow your elbow to bend. It must be locked straight. And from here we have to take off. As we are already in place with our two hands gripping the pole, we push into the ground with our standing foot, and place it in exactly the same way as the bent leg.
Please note that the ankles do not cross but the toes touch.
To exit from this spin, we place the low hand on the pole in baseball grip, using it as support to be able to free up the inside leg to the front. Then we stand up. To do this spin the back must be curved as in a backbend. If the back remains straight the spin will still work but it will be totally unattractive since it will looks like this. So you need to curve your back so that the figure will be pretty.
This spin is impressive but not very complicated to complete. All you need to do is carefully follow the steps to get into the spin properly.
