Obama honors American soldiers at Belgian World War One battlefield

TORY: U.S. President Barack Obama on Wednesday honored World War I soldiers at the Flanders Field American Cemetery and Memorial in western Belgium flanked by the country's King Phillipe and Prime Minister Elio Di Rupo.
After listening to the United States national anthem, Obama laid a wreath and toured the battlefield where U.S. soldiers fought a century ago, a visit steeped in historical significance that has been accentuated by the tensions with Russia over Crimea.
In his short speech, Obama underscored the importance of the transatlantic relationship and said there were powerful reasons for the United States and Europe to work together.
"Here today I have also known that the lessons of that war speak to us still. Our nations are part of the international effort to destroy Syria's chemical weapons. The same kinds of weapons that were used to such devastating effect on these very fields." he said.
