Turkey's president slams Twitter ban as "unacceptable"

Turkey’s President Abdullah Gul has condemned a court’s decision to impose a complete ban on Twitter.
In a tweet on the social media network he said only individual Internet pages should be blocked if someone’s privacy has been violated.
Turkey’s courts prevented access after Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan vowed to “wipe out” the service regardless of what the international community thought of his actions.
Erdogan’s move has been widely attacked at home and abroad. It comes as the government fights a corruption scandal and days ahead of elections.
Istanbul resident Doga Satir said Turkey’s future is not bright: “We cannot even talk to people on the street about this issue. This is not good for the country.”
Sentiments shared by another man, Fahir Karabel: “Congratulations to him. What else can I say? He cannot prevent this by blocking a website. No matter how hard he tries, people will always find their ways, they will always find an open door.”
Indeed, it appears the actions of Turkey’s government have had little affect on Twitter traffic with users finding other ways to send tweets out to the rest of the world.
