Supporters sing and dance after Ugandan President Yowery Museveni says he'll sign controversial anti-homosexual legislation, backed by science.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) UGANDA PRESIDENT, YOWERI MUSEVENI, SAYING:

"We shall have a war with the homosexual lobby in the world but backed by these people and you we will go back to Luwero."

Museveni warns that anyone who promotes homosexual behavior will be dealt with harshly.

A ministerial committee has said that homosexuality is not a "disease," but "abnormal behavior."

During a conference coordinated by Uganda's National Resistance Movement party, a national scientist presented his findings.

He told the President that homosexuality should not be tolerated due to "serious" public health consequences.

The bill Museveni intends to sign was first introduced in 2009.

It had originally said homosexual acts could be punishable by death, but was later amended to prescribe jail sentences.
