Motorist drives across frozen Yellow River in China to avoid toll

Paying tolls can be annoying, but risking your life just to avoid paying 50 cents is just plain stupid. A Chinese man drove straight onto the frozen Yellow River in Ordos, Inner Mongolia just so he could get out of paying the bridge toll.

Sure, tolls suck, but what are you going to do? Well, you could do what this Chinese guy did and avoid it altogether. Apparently the driver wasn't in the mood to fork out the 50 cents or so it would take to pay the bridge toll so he thought of a brilliant idea to get out of paying. He decided it would be better to risk his life driving across the frozen Yellow River instead. Who can argue with that sound logic?

The penny pinching driver drove his silver-colored sedan to the edge of the frozen banks. He carefully and slowly drove out onto the ice at first. The farther he got away from the river bank, the more his confidence appeared to grow, which led him to increase his speed. Luckily there were onlookers on the bridge taking pictures of the event. Witnesses said they could hear the ice creak under the weight of the driver's car.

It took Confucius on Ice about 10 minutes to cross the 1 km-wide body of frozen, clear, unpolluted water. He even revved his engine with satisfaction as he made it to the bank of the other side.

Remember, the next time you're in China, bridge tolls are optional.
