"The LEGO Movie" climbed to the top of the box office charts this weekend, snapping up $69.1 million in ticket sales, according to studio estimates.

The animated film is based on the popular plastic children's blocks -- and it's receiving rave reviews.

Time Magazine said, "Take the kids to The LEGO Movie - the funniest, cleverest, most exhaustingly exhilarating animated feature in ages - then leave them to play with their toys and see it again for your own wicked amusement."

Second in this weekend's box office mix was "The Monuments Men," which stars George Clooney, Matt Damon, Bill Murray and John Goodman.

It brought in $22.7 million in sales at U.S. and Canadian theaters. It's a World War II film based on a true story of U.S. soldiers who rescue fine art from Nazi thieves. The movie is based on the book by Robert M. Edsel.
