"They have crucified me," opposition activist in Ukraine

Amid months of unrest in Ukraine now new allegations come as Ukrainian police open a criminal investigation into torture claims by an opposition activist.

Dmytro Bulatov went missing January 22.

(SOUNDBITE) (Russian) OPPOSITION ACTIVIST, DMYTRO BULATOV, SAYING:

"I had my hands pierced. They have crucified me. They have cut off my ear, cut my face. All my body is beaten black-and-blue. The rest you can see. But thank God I am alive."

In Switzerland Rupert Colville, spokesman for the UN Rights chief weighed in.

we are appalled by the deaths reported in recent days in Kiev, which should be promptly, thoroughly and independently investigated. We are also calling for an investigation into reports of kidnappings and torture
