South Korean governor visits the disputed islands, condemning Japan

STORY: A South Korean governor visited the disputed islands on Wednesday (January 29) denouncing Japan's decision to teach guidelines of the islands.
The updated guidelines which instruct teachers how to teach classes were announced by Japanese Education Minister Hakubun Shimomura, who said that they will seek to teach children what Japan considered to be its territory.
The new guidelines are for both middle school and high schools, with middle school guidelines going into effect in 2016 and high schools in 2017.
Kim Kwan-yong, the governor of North Gyeongsang Province flew to the disputed islets called Dokdo by South Korea and Takeshima in Japan, and condemned Japan's territorial claims.
"Japan stop the rootless claims over the islands and a series of provocative actions immediately," said Kim.
South Korea controls the islands which are equidistant from the mainlands of both countries.
