Blasts hit Cairo as Egypt marks revolution

Two explosions have hit Cairo, as an on-edge Egypt braces for mass demonstrations on the third anniversary of the Arab Spring uprising that toppled Hosni Mubarak.

The blasts on Saturday hit Hadeek al Qubba area and a police building in eastern Cairo. No casualties were reported but the attacks came a day after four explosions targeting police in the capital killed six.

Opponents of the current army-backed interim government are expected to hold demonstrations on Saturday, with some calling for the return of the Islamist president, Mohamed Morsi, who became the first elected Egyptian president in 2012 but was removed from power last year in a military intervention backed by popular support.
