Ukraine to hold special session of parliament as unrest continues

Under clouds of thick smoke, thousands of Ukrainian protesters remain camped out in the heart of Kiev.

As fires crackle, protesters wave their country's flag in the glow of burning embers as riot police watch from nearby.

Meanwhile, inside the presidential palace, it's business as usual for President Viktor Yanukovich.

In a meeting with religious leaders, he pledged to reshuffle his government and amend sweeping anti-protest laws at a special session of parliament next week.

"We have agreed to hold an unscheduled session of Rada. It can be called extraordinary, not just unscheduled. During this unscheduled session we will discuss the new order of actions which is necessary today to take away sharp questions."

For the opposition, Yanukovich's moves come too little too late.

At a news conference, boxer-turned-opposition leader Vitalty Klitschko said real reforms are needed.
