Pot Amnesty Boxes Installed in Colorado Airport

To save its travelers from potential trouble with the law, the Colorado Springs Airport has begun to install marijuana disposal boxes.

Pot may be legal in Colorado, but that doesn’t mean you can take it with you when you leave, particularly if you’re departing by airplane.

To save its travelers from potential trouble with the law, the Colorado Springs Airport has begun to install marijuana disposal boxes.

They say they’ve done so, because there may be many who are likely unaware that it’s illegal to take the drug inside the facility and onto planes, regardless of the state’s allowances for it elsewhere.

Airport officials are also operating on the lenient side of the possession law as long as the passenger hasn’t yet boarded a plane.

Passengers who pass through security with pot on their person or in their luggage are turned over by the TSA to the State Police.

They will, however, have the opportunity to voluntarily hand over their stash and avoid charges.

Once the plane has been boarded and its doors are sealed shut, however, it’s a federal matter.

Carrying marijuana on a plane can get a person both a fine and jail sentence.

At this time, the Colorado Springs Airport is the only in the state to have the disposal boxes, but others are considering it.
