Dozens of supporters prayed outside a hospital in the garrison city of Rawalpindi on Thursday (January 2) for former Pakistani military ruler Pervez Musharraf, who was taken there a day earlier after reporting chest pains.

The former president felt the pain while on his way to face treason charges in a special court in the capital, Islamabad.

A spokeswoman for Musharraf said he had been taken to a military hospital in the city of Rawalpindi, near Islamabad.

The supporters held bouquets and cards to wish Musharraf well. With raised hands they prayed for his quick recovery. They chanted slogans praising Musharraf.

Security was tight around hospital and no one was allowed to enter.
