Hong Kong rings in the New Year

Thousands celebrated the New Year along Hong Kong's iconic Victoria Harbor with an eight-minute fireworks show kicking off at midnight on January 1.

The event, which the organizer said was the largest in eight years, featured fireworks in all shapes and sizes.

Organizer Hong Kong Tourism Board estimated 400,000 people in the city of 7 million would attend the event, which came with a price tag of HK$13 million (US$1.68 million)
