"12 Years a Slave" leads Golden Globe nods

The historical drama "12 Years a Slave" earned seven Golden Globe nominations when they were announced on Thursday (December 12), including one for actor Chiwetel Ejiofor and a nod for the coveted best motion picture drama.

"American Hustle" also earned seven nods. In addition to best picture musical or comedy, the film's actors Christian Bale, Amy Adams, Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence all earned a nomination.

"Captain Phillips" secured four nominations, including one for lead actor Tom Hanks.

And "Gravity" also took four nods, including one for Sandra Bullock for best actress in a motion picture drama.

The Golden Globes, organized by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, will be handed out on January 12 in Beverly Hills.

Tony award-winning actress Idina Menzel and her actor husband, Taye Diggs, have separated after 10 years of marriage.

The couple have a 4-year old son, Walker.
