Somebody Stole my Gal Axel's Dreamband 1977 Jazz in Hamburg.
Somewhere on my original video it said Axel's Dreamband from Austria, but I hear these guys talk about a jazz club in Hamburg and this was recorded ( it says) in 1977.
Who is this excellent clarinetplayer and not to forget the stride pianist.
John Evers from Austria just wrote me with the following info:
SOMEBODY STOLE MY GAL from Hamburg, this actually is a band from Vienna guesting in Hamburg on invitation of Abbi Huebner. Not a working band, but put together by Axel Melhardt, manager of the club Jazzland. Therefore the name Axel´s dreamband, as the band is a pick-up band from various Viennese groups. Axel himself makes the final announcements, introducing the musicians.
They are: Ernst Machacek (cor), Willie Meerwald (tb) both of them no more among us.
Still alive and playing are Alfons Wuerzl (cl), Franz Lutternberger (p), Walter Strohmeier (b) and Horst Bichler (dm).
