Finally, Scissors That Cut a Straight Line

Scissors have been around for 4 thousand years, yet it took until recently for somebody to come up with a pair that can cut a straight line.

Scissors have been around for 4 thousand years, yet it took until recently for somebody to come up with a pair that can cut a straight line.

That honor goes to a design student from Budapest’s Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design.

He accomplished the previously elusive feat by simply getting rid of the variable that made precision line cutting nearly impossible – human skill.

Instead of having a person guide the scissors along the path, the cutting tool glides along the edge of a table, resulting in a perfect cut every time.

What makes that happen are the specially designed handles. The upper or left portion rests on the top of the table while the bottom or right sails along the table’s smooth, even edge.

There are other subtle characteristics of his design that aid in the process. For example, the thumb area is angled so the paper goes over it, which prevents jams and paper cuts.

Also, the finger section has enough room for the whole hand, giving the mechanism more stability.

Now all he needs is somebody to manufacture them. Sadly, there is no Kickstarter option in Hungary.
