Dr Who celebrates 50 years since first episode

It is the world’s longest-running science fiction drama and it is about to celebrate 50 years. Dr Who first aired on the BBC in 1963.
On Saturday evening, hundreds of millions of people around the world are expected to tune in for a special feature-length 50th anniversary episode, “Day of the Doctor,“ which will screen simultaneously in 94 countries.
At a three-day exhibition at the ExCeL centre in London, fans from around the world got a chance to see behind-the-scenes demonstrations, props and costumes.
Cast and crew from every era of Doctor Who were also taking part.
Jenna Coleman plays Dr Who’s current companion and tried to explain the programme’s appeal:
“It’s a show that five-year-olds can watch and a show that a 70-year old will watch and still
be kind of current in that you can’t get older and you can still travel anywhere in the world
and I think a family show that you can sit down and all of the family enjoy it on so many
levels.”
The 50th anniversary episode is expected to contain a number of surprise guest stars, actors who have previously played the Doctor or other roles, and serve as the bridge between the outgoing Doctor, Matt Smith, and the regenerated new Doctor to be played by Peter Capaldi.
