He's the face behind one of the America's most provocative magazines.

Larry Flynt, the publisher of Hustler, is now making headlines for a different reason.

He wants to stop the execution of the man who almost took his life.

SOUNDBITE: LARRY FLYNT, PUBLISHER AND PRESIDENT OF FLYNT PUBLICATIONS, SAYING:

You put a man in a 3X6 cell for the rest of his life, that's a lot of punishment, but if you snuff out his life with a lethal injection in a few seconds, his punishment is over."

Joseph Paul Franklin tried to kill Flynt in a shooting in 1978.

He says he was upset over a bi-racial photo spread in Hustler magazine.

Flynt survived, but would spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair.

Now, his would-be killer is set to die by lethal injection from a new drug. In his appeal, Flynt says he's againt the secrecy behind it.

Franklin is on death row in Missouri for killing eight people in racially motivated attacks in the 70s and 80s.
