Philippine typhoon death toll jumps; U.S. helicopters boost aid effort

A huge international relief operation swings into action.

U.S. military planes and other naval ships send food, water and medical teams to the worst hit areas of the Philippines ravaged by a super typhoon.

The United States says its support is on an unprecedented scale with other US vessels to arrive in about a week.

Aircraft carrier the USS George Washington and two cruisers arrived on Thursday.
