Amanda Knox's ex-boyfriend asks Italian judges for his life back

Amanda Knox's former boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, addresses a Florence courtroom and asks judges to give him back a real life.

Knox and Sollecito were convicted in 2009 of killing 21-year-old British student Meredith Kercher in what was described as a drug-fuelled sexual assault.

An emotional Sollecito plead his innocence.

(SOUNDBITE) (Italian) RAFFAELE SOLLECITO SAYING:

"As I said, I never knew Rudy Guede and I only knew Meredith a little bit. It doesn't make any sense that I would have had any interest in her that could have led to such an atrocious act, against a 20-year-old girl, it has no basis in reality. And this thing, unfortunately, is going on for too many years."

After winning an appeal in 2011 against their guilty verdicts, both Knox and Sollecito were freed from prison.

But the case is being tried again in Florence after Italy's supreme court overturned the acquittals in
