Six arrested in Italy and Belgium on terrorism charges

A six-year long investigation into an alleged Islamic militant cell based in southern Italy ended with the arrest of six men, according to Italian reports.
Using wiretaps police allegedly heard members of the group considering Italy, Israel and the US as possible targets for terror attacks.
According to police the group had its logistics base in a call centre in the small town of Andria, Puglia, Italian media reported.
Police said the head of the group, a former imam of a mosque in Italy, used a call center he managed to show recruits videos about bomb making and the use of firearms, as well as speeches by Osama Bin Laden.
According to Italian reports, the former imam was in contact with exponents of international terrorism such as Essid Sami Ben Khemais, Ben Yahia Mouldi Ber Rachid e Ben Alì Mohamed.
It is alleged the group also organized physical training on the slopes of Mount Etna in Sicily and celebrated when a 2009 earthquake hit Italy destroying several Christian churches
According to Italian reports, this is the first time that the activity of an Islamic militant cell is discovered in the South of Italy.
