Bangkok motorist killed after oversize load brings down bridge

An 18-wheel truck carrying a oversize load through Bangkok early Friday morning crashed into a pedestrian overpass, which then fell on a pickup truck killing the driver, the Bangkok Post reported.
According to the truck driver, a police car had been leading a convoy of trucks delivering parts of a drilling rig, but had driven away before the accident occurred.
One of the trucks, carrying a large part of the oil rig, hit the underside of an overpass six metres above Barommaratchachonnani Road in Bangkok's Thawi Watthana district.
Reports said the overpass section was lifted up off its support pillars and fell on top of a pickup truck, right onto the cabin above the driver's seat, as it passed below.
The driver, a 38-year-old man identified as Manas Matamud was killed instantly.
Work crews had to cut the damaged section of the overpass, which weighed about 30 tonnes, into three pieces before they could remove it from on top of the truck.
