The killing of Daniel Zamudio by these four men horrified many in Chile.

The 24-year-old was beaten with rocks and swastikas were carved into his body.

On Monday the man considered the ringleader was jailed for life.

The other three were given terms of between seven and 15 years.

Zamudio's mother was dissatisfied with the sentencing.

(SOUNDBITE(Spanish) JACQUELINE VERA, MOTHER OF DANIEL ZAMUDIO, SAYING:

"This is how the Chilean justice system is. You can't expect anything more. It's supposed that all of them, the four of them, took part in beating Daniel. The four of them should be sentenced to life, not just one of them."

Daniel Zamudio was subjected to a prolonged attack in a park in March 2012.

He died 25 days later in hospital.

His death sparked protests among gay rights supporters.

Thousands attended his funeral in Santiago.
