Smart grids, smart meters and smart consumers - is this the future of Europe's energy system? Smart meters are supposed to bring many benefits to consumers by reducing people's consumption and reduce their bills.
But there are many open questions. A major issue is about how to help consumers use the smart meter in an optimal way. If this is not thought through, the roll-out of smart meters can be a very costly experiment.
