Thief returns giant pumpkin to boy, leaves apology

Jaiden Newcomer's faith in humanity was restored after the central Pennsylvania thief who stole the 100-pound pumpkin the nine-year-old had won at an Oktoberfest celebration returned it to the boy's front porch on Sunday.

After taking home top prize at a pumpkin guess-the-weight competition, Jaiden took home the giant specimen, which was so large, four adult family members were needed to lift it onto the family's porch.

"They put it on a wheelbarrow to move it," Amy Newcomer, Jaiden's mother, told the York Dispatch.

But, the boy's heart was smashed last week when the prize pumpkin was stolen from the family's porch.

Word quickly got out about the theft, and the burglar, perhaps realizing who he had stolen it from, had a sudden change of heart.

The thief returned the pumpkin to the boy's porch, along with an apology note.

The note read: "I'm really sorry about taking your pumpkin. It was wrong of me. You earned the pumpkin. I didn't think my actions through nor realize who they were affecting. Sincerest apologies."

"I never thought it would actually be returned," said Jaiden's mother. "Our great pumpkin was on the front porch."
