House Republicans look for a way out of fiscal impasse

Deadlock continues...

Republican lawmakers in the U.S. House of Representatives met on Tuesday to a find their way out of a fiscal impasse.

They floated a plan to reopen the federal government, partially shut down since October 1.

But the party rank and file rejected it, raising questions about what the House can pass.

House Speaker John Boehner:

SOUNDBITE: HOUSE SPEAKER JOHN BOEHNER SAYING:

"There are a lot of opinions about what direction to go. There have been no decisions about exactly what we will do."

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid claims the Republican plan was meant to "appease" conservative Tea Party Republicans.

SOUNDBITE: SENATE MAJORITY LEADER HARRY REID SAYING:

"We felt we were blind-sided by the news from the House…I'm very disappointed with John Boehner."

But Arizona Republican Senator John McCain came to Boehner's defense.

McCain has blamed House Republicans for the shutdown.
