US shutdown cancels KKK rally at national park

Ku Klux Klan event cancelled: Too bad for racists ignoramuses of the KKK, their rally planned for Saturday, Oct. 5 was cancelled because of the U.S. government shutdown. The bigger question is, how did they obtain a permit to hold their rally in the first place, which apparently many people were opposed to.

Officials at Gettysburg National Military Park granted a special-use permit to the Maryland-based KKK group on Sept. 26. However, park authorities rescinded all the permits due to the shutdown that began at 12 a.m. Eastern Standard Time on Tuesday (October 1).

In a statement, President Barack Obama said, "Tourists will find every one of America's national parks and monuments, from Yosemite to the Smithsonian to the Statue of Liberty, immediately closed. And of course the communities and small business that rely on these national treasures for their livelihoods will be out of customers and out of luck."

This apparently includes members of the Klan, which will just have to find another redneck venue to hold their cross-burning ceremony.
