New Bond author launches 'Solo'

With the luxurious Dorchester hotel, Vintage Jensen cars and glamorous female flight attendants, James Bond himself would have felt right at home for the launch of his new novel.

British novelist William Boyd has written the new Bond story 'Solo' which sees the character on assignment in Africa.

Boyd, who has already written two other spy novels, said he wasn't daunted by the challenge of taking on the hugely successful Bond brand.

SOUNDBITE, William Boyd, author, saying (English):

"Actually when you go back and read the Fleming novels there is a phenomenal amount of information about him, fascinating and banal, significant and minor. But I just mined the novels, Fleming's novels, for the information that I needed, so I felt quite confident, but if I hadn't written a spy novel, it would be a tall order."
