As Kenya's siege enters its third day, Al Shabab have claimed they acted to protect Somalians and Muslims. This archive report offers a rare insight to the militant group's foreign links and influence in Somalia.

When plagued by drought and famine, the Somalis say it was Al Shabab who came to their rescue and gave them medicine and food.
