Miss America corwns its first Indian-American winner

Miss New York, Nina Davuluri made history during this year's 2014 Miss America competition on ABC by becoming the country's first Miss America of Indian descent.

By winning, Davuluri brought the highly sought after crown back to her home state of New York for a second year in a row.

The 24-year-old aspiring physician defeated contestants from 49 other states, the District of Columbia, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, after performing a Bollywood fusion dance and answering a question about plastic surgery.

The coveted title came with of course the sparkly tiara and a scholarship prize of $50,000 U.S. dollars.
