STORY: Red carpet favorite Marchesa showed its Spring/Summer 2014 collection on Wednesday (September 11), during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week (MBFW) in New York.

For the occasion a vaulted-and-columned room of the New York Public Library, a Manhattan landmark, was turned into a massive runway.

During an interview before the show, the label's design duo Chapman and Keren Craig told Reuters about their inspiration.

"Georgina looked at different bias slips, we were looking at things from the 20's, from the 30's, silhouettes from the 50's. So it's really being playful and trying, almost like a dressing up box," Craig said.

The collection filled with lace and tulle gowns looked indeed like a fantasy dress-up box from a young girl's dream.

Dresses with silk fringes and organza flowers marched down the runway.

The ethereal feel of the collection was enhanced by the loose fitting silhouettes and the layering of fabrics.
