North Korea celebrated the 65th anniversary of its founding on Monday (September 9) with a massive parade in Pyongyang observed by leader Kim Jong-un.

Thousands of North Korean soldiers and Pyongyang citizens along with government officials participated in the massive outdoor rally.

Kim, clad in black, watched as soldiers and armoured vehicles paraded past.

The reclusive country's leadership blames the U.S. military presence in the South as the main reason for continued conflict on the Korean peninsula six decades after the Korean War ended with a truce rather than a peace treaty
