Jason Wu finds ease in structure

STORY: Fashion designer Jason Wu shot to fame when first Lady Michelle Obama wore his white dreamy gown to the inaugural ball in 2009. But his latest collection presented at an off-site venue of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week (MBFW) in New York on Friday (September 6) was nothing but ladylike.
For spring 2014, the designer was inspired by lingerie and corsetry, creating structured pieces in sheer and lacy fabrics which he offset with roomy, comfortable looking coats and jackets which he calls his "dialogue between construction and ease."
The effortless feel came from long hemlines and skirts in luxurious soft fabrics such as silk, satin and suede. At the same time he gave his garments masculine details such as large cargo pockets.
The designer chose a soft color palette for spring, using gold, ivory, blush and sage often embellished with sparkling embroideries. He admitted that he consciously shied away from his usual favorites suc
