Assad forces 'behind chemical attack'

France's president wants his Syrian counterpart punished for last month's lethal chemical attack in Damascus.

A French intelligence report says forces loyal to Bashar al-Assad were behind a 'massive and co-ordinated' attack on August 21st.

French military doctors are said to have authenticated some 47 amateur video clips purportedly shot on the morning it happened.

Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault says a coalition of countries is needed to back a military response.

"There is no question of France acting alone. The President of the Republic is working on persuading and bringing together a coalition as quickly as possible."

Turkey says it too backs military action and is preparing for the possibility of a U.S.-led strike against the Syrian government.

Those preparations include field hospitals to cope with any rush of refugees and chemical detoxification tents.
