AUM (OM) stands for the Absolute and is the beginning and the end of most Hindu prayers. According to Indian philosophy, matter arose from sound.
AUM is the holiest sound, the universe and the gods arose from it. The basic syllable OM generates cosmic vibrations that are supposed to keep the atoms of Heaven and Earth together.
AUM is interpreted as Earth, Heaven and the kingdom of Heaven, but also as the beginning of time, as the sign of the highest, indefinable God (Brahman).
AUM unites and merges the three aspects of human consciousness:
A The waking/wakeful state of consciousness (Jagrat)
U Dream (Sleep) State of consciousness (Svapna)
M Deep Sleep State of consciousness (Susupti)
