The Martians intend to invade Earth, but cannot strike until they possess the plans for inventor Cyrus Layton's (James Craven) long-range "jet plane" spaceship. The advance scout for the invasion is a strangely garbed being called the Purple Monster (Roy Barcroft), who can take over the identity of any earth man.
