Venezuela, Nicaragua offer Snowden assylum
Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has agreed to grant asylum to former National Security Agency contract Edward Snowden.
Maduro made the announcement during a military celebration for Venezuela's independence day.
And Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega has also said he would grant asylum to Snowden should circumstances permit.
Nicaragua, one of Latin America's poorest countries, gets substantial financial support from Venezuela, and Ortega was a staunch ally of Venezuela's late Hugo Chavez.
Snowden, seen here in an interview with Britain's Guardian Newspaper, is wanted by Washington for revealing the secret U.S. electronic surveillance program Prism.
He's applied for political asylum in more than a dozen countries, but is believed to still be holed up in the transit area of a Moscow airport.
